Surface-mount chip LEDs for board layouts and enclosures, as Kingbright draws them: a laminate substrate with a terminal at each end and a clear moulded lens on top. Top-view APHHS1005 (EIA 0402), APT1608 (0603), APT2012 (0805) and APT3216 (1206), and the side-view APA1606. The substrate, the lens and each terminal are their own solids. Dimensions from Kingbright's data sheets. See the README.

Chip LED

Kingbright's surface-mount chip LEDs: a laminate substrate with a terminal at each end and a water-clear moulded lens. The part is centred on the origin with its length along X, standing on the board (the XY plane) on its terminals. The substrate, the lens and each terminal are their own solids.

  • Top view: APHHS1005 (EIA 0402), APT1608 (0603), APT2012 (0805) and APT3216 (1206). The lens is on top.
  • Side view: APA1606. It lies with its back at y = -0.3 and the lens facing +Y.

APA1606 1.6 1.2 over the lens 0.6 0.6 1.2 1.1 0.25

For APA1606, the 0.6 substrate is its thickness from the back to the lens's foot. The lens stands 0.6 beyond it, to 1.2, and the part is 0.6 high on the board.

Proportions, stated plainly. The drawings show these but don't dimension them:

  • On a top-view part, each terminal is a plating 0.03 thick. It wraps round the substrate's end, under it for the terminal length, up its end face and over its top to the lens's foot, across the full width. The plating is inside the drawn length and height. The substrate sits on it, and the top strip stands 0.03 proud of the substrate.
  • On APA1606, each terminal is an end cap over the whole section, the terminal length long. The substrate and lens between the caps are 0.03 inside it.
  • The lens runs the part's full width. APHHS1005's lens has straight sides, as drawn.

Materials. The sheets name no materials and give no weight, so the mass isn't checked. The substrate is a glass-epoxy laminate, about 1.9, shown as ptfe (2.2) like the library's other moulded packages. The lens is water-clear epoxy, about 1.2, shown as pmma (1.18). The terminals are plated copper.

Catalogue models

  • LED_0402_1005Metric, LED_0603_1608Metric, LED_0805_2012Metric and LED_1206_3216Metric have no reference models. Each names an EIA chip size, and each maps to Kingbright's chip LED of that size.
  • LED_Kingbright_APA1606_1.6x0.6mm_Horizontal maps to APA1606. Its reference model was measured against the sheet:
Reference model APA1606 sheet
Length 1.6 1.6
Depth over the lens 1.2 1.2
Height on the board 0.6 0.6

The reference model is one plain solid with no terminals or lens shape, so only its envelope compares.

The other sizes (01005, 0201, 1210, 1806, 1812, 2010, 2512, 2816), the castellated-terminal entries, the PLCC and RGB LEDs, and the other makers' parts are left with their reasons in COVERAGE.md.
