# 19-inch rack panel A flat blank panel for a 19-inch (EIA-310) rack, from Hammond Manufacturing's PBPA aluminium panels. Each end has two open mounting slots, four in all. The panel lies on the XY plane with its back face down and its front face up (+Z). Its width runs along X, centred on the origin, and its height along Y, with the bottom edge on the X axis. `units` is the panel's height in rack units, 1U to 4U. `finish` is the paint: black, RAL 7032 grey, ASA 61 grey, RAL 7035 grey, or unfinished. The finish changes only the colour. | Units | Hammond part | Height | First slot below the top edge | Slot spacing | Height, mm | |---|---|---|---|---|---| | 1U | PBPA19001 | 1.72 | 0.23 | 1.25 | 43.69 | | 2U | PBPA19003 | 3.47 | 0.23 | 3.00 | 88.14 | | 3U | PBPA19005 | 5.22 | 1.48 | 2.25 | 132.59 | | 4U | PBPA19007 | 6.97 | 1.48 | 4.00 | 177.04 | These dimensions are in inches. For every size, the panel is 19.00 wide (482.6 mm) and 0.125 thick (3.175 mm). It has 4X 0.250 x 0.531 slots, open at the end edges, and the slot centres are 18.19 apart (462.0 mm). ## Source Hammond Manufacturing's dimensional drawings *PBPA19001*, *PBPA19003*, *PBPA19005* and *PBPA19007*. The drawings show no revision. The copies used are hosted by AutomationDirect at and the same address with 19003BK, 19005BK and 19007BK. Hammond's own site refused the download. Each drawing is one page and gives: - The front view: the height, the first slot's centre below the top edge, the slot spacing, the 18.19 between the slot centres, and the 4X 0.250 x 0.531 slot. - The bottom view: the 19.00 width. - The notes: the material is 0.125" aluminium. - The part-number table: the finishes, BK2 painted black, CG2 painted RAL 7032 grey, GY2 painted ASA 61 grey, LG2 painted RAL 7035 grey, and UNF unfinished. AutomationDirect's cut sheet *PBPA19001BK* (generated June 27, 2024, ) names the alloy as 5052-H32 aluminium. **How the slot is read.** The drawing gives the slot as 0.250 wide and 0.531 deep from the end edge, with a round end. Its centre is therefore 0.531 - 0.125 = 0.406 in from the edge. That puts the centres 19.00 - 2 x 0.406 = 18.19 apart, the drawing's own centre distance. The slots are symmetric top to bottom: for 1U, 0.23 + 1.25 leaves 0.24 below the lower slot. The drawings give no corner radii or edge breaks, so the corners are square. The material is `aluminum-5052-h32`, shown in the finish's colour. The colours are for looks only. No weight is stated, so there is no mass check. The modelled mass of 1U is 482.6 x 43.69 x 3.175 mm of aluminium at 2.68 g/cm³, about 179 g less the slots. ## Catalogue models The old catalogue's `19in rack blank panel 1U`, `2U` and `3U` map to 1U, 2U and 3U. Their reference models are placeholders, measured on 2026-11-06: a 19 x 1 x 2 mm block for 1U and 19 x 3 x 2 for 3U, that is, the inch width and the unit count taken as millimetres. The names name the standard part, so they map to the real panel: | | Width | Height | Thickness | Slots | |---|---|---|---|---| | old 1U model | 19 mm | 1 mm | 2 mm | none | | Hammond PBPA19001 | 482.6 mm (19.00 in) | 43.69 mm (1.72 in) | 3.175 mm (0.125 in) | 4 | | old 3U model | 19 mm | 3 mm | 2 mm | none | | Hammond PBPA19005 | 482.6 mm | 132.59 mm (5.22 in) | 3.175 mm | 4 | 4U has no old catalogue model. These old models are not mapped: - The vented panels are "no table read yet". Hammond's PVSA series page gives 0.25 x 1.0 in slots, but no drawing that places them was reachable. - The rack ears are placeholders (the same blocks). The name names no maker or part. - The front and rear panels and the panel cutouts are placeholders as well. See `COVERAGE.md`.
